Whitman Emorson is seeking a Creative Director to lead the studio’s team and its work. As the studio’s sole Creative Director, you will be responsible for directing all aspects of the studio’s work, from research and strategy through to design concept development and rollout. You will determine the approach and direction of each project, working closely, in a hands-on fashion, with our design, strategy and account teams to deliver that work. You will also work closely with the studio’s partners to shape the overall direction of the studio. Core responsibilities: — manage, plan and oversee complex, multi-faceted projects — oversee and conduct research and interviews; synthesizing research findings; and developing design strategies — lead graphic design, working with identity systems, typography, photography, illustrations — shepherd the WE brand, ensuring work meets our standards and aligns with our team’s vision — develop strong, trusting relationships with clients, often presenting work The right candidate will have experience with all of these activities, and will understand intuitively that design and strategy are inextricably linked. We are seeking someone with experience in a design studio environment, not advertising, and require a candidate who is equally comfortable discussing ideas and insights as they are exploring visual systems. This role includes a great deal of responsibility but also of freedom. As the first creative director to lead this company besides the founding partners, there is a tremendous opportunity to shape this role, and indeed the studio itself. We have an established way of working, of course, but believe strongly that there are countless correct answers to the questions we are asked; we are always open to evolving, and this role will be distinguished by an immense amount of autonomy and of trust.
